A new take on an old-time match trick
If you're looking to become the center of attention, you can never have too many tricks up your sleeve. Grabbing attention with a "freebie" magic trick is a solid first step towards scamming a free beer, breaking the ice, or getting a girl's phone number. So this week, we offer a solid magic trick courtesy of our friend Dan Martin.
For those that learned the match vanish in the "From the Forums" episode, Dan's match trick is the perfect chance to perform the effect: a match is freely selected, vanishes, and appears inside the box. Classic!
Remember that the key to this effect is keeping everything as fair as possible. Let the marks count the matches. Let them pick the magic match. Let them keep the matchbox secure as possible. The more they're involved, the more impressed they'll be that you were able to sneak that match back in.
Thanks again to Dan Martin for lending us this effect, and make sure to check out his website at martinmagic.com

well, maybe alot of us that participate in this forum are "clue'd-in" for things to look for... but when I saw Brian holding the matchbox I knew he was holding a match in there and the only thing that had me wondering during the trick was what he would do to the "magic match". As I asked b4 about "palming/disappearing" (btw Brian thanks for the response.. I'm so impressed how in-touch U are w/ UR fanbase).. I got skinny fingers w/ gaps (Brian said they were nicknamed "windows") and how to get rid of the "magic match" was my big interest.
I'm sure there are more difficult sleight(sp?) of hand techniques that U dont wanna get into for the "common guy" trying UR tricks... Are their any dexterity drills/exercises U do to kep sharp that us newbies can start (so we can go to the next level instead of just trying our tricks on the buzzed/half-clueless).. Altho w/ UR performance schedule.. U seem so busy that U dont need to worry about getting "rusty"
Brian: Are U strapped by contract for UR Orlando shows or can U UStream/QuickCam some of the show... Of course, U dont wanna give TOO much away for free (U already give more than most) but I'm, maybe, a thousand miles away (I'm bad judging distance/sizes.. I look between my legs and see 14") and I couldnt get there to pay to see the show unless I won the lottery.
Give us clips plz

You should have an episode on slight of hand, keeping it simple and showing some advanced stuff so everyone can enjoy. I'm not really into practicing magic but I enjoy seeing how things are done.

I wanted to keep the vanish simple for this one (especially since we're teaching regular folk here), but if you use the match vanish from the "from the forums" episode, you'll get a much stronger response... Plus, you have the added benefit of an immediate distraction (the box) as soon as you perform the effect.

Watching the episode, I could immediately see where the matches where going (I'd need to practice vanishing an object, though). At a bar, or any place with a crowd, people just don't see that, especially if you're doing "magic" - you get the same suspension of disbelief most of the time as you get while watching a movie (unless your friends are dicks, which is very likely). The other thing is, if the trick is a bit weak (or you're a bit weak at the trick), just wait until everyone has had a few.

It was easy to tell what was going on with the match box, but maybe we can get an episode on banishing stuff. Good work, Brian.
